This Privacy Policy explains how MBReviews collects, uses, stores and protects information when you visit MBReviews.com, create or use an account, submit comments or contact forms, use the MBReviews Test Lab, or interact with an MBReviews Test Lab module embedded on an authorised third-party website.
It also explains your privacy choices and rights.
1. Data Controller
MBReviews is operated by:
Bondor Samuel
Operating as MBReviews
P.IVA: P.IVA Bondor Samuel
Email: mark.b@mbreviews.com
Website: https://www.mbreviews.com
For personal data where MBReviews determines the purposes and means of processing, MBReviews acts as the data controller.
A retailer or other third-party website that embeds an MBReviews Test Lab module separately controls the personal data it processes through its own website, such as customer accounts, shopping carts, payments and orders. Privacy roles for a particular commercial integration may also be further specified by an agreement between MBReviews and the retailer.
2. Scope of this Privacy Policy
This Policy applies to:
- visitors to MBReviews.com;
- registered users and commenters;
- people who contact MBReviews;
- users of the MBReviews Test Lab;
- visitors who interact with an authorised MBReviews Test Lab module embedded on another website; and
- aggregate information provided to MBReviews by participating retailers during Test Lab pilots.
Third-party websites, retailers, advertisers and affiliate merchants operate under their own privacy policies for processing that they independently control.
3. Technical and Server Information
When your browser connects to MBReviews, MBReviews and its infrastructure providers may process technical information necessary to deliver, secure and maintain the service.
This may include:
- IP address;
- requested URL;
- date and time of the request;
- browser and user-agent information;
- operating system or device information;
- referring page;
- HTTP headers;
- network and connection information;
- security, caching and error information; and
- information used to detect abuse or malicious activity.
MBReviews currently uses Cloudflare for content delivery, performance and security services and Namecheap for web hosting.
This processing is used to provide the website, maintain security and availability, diagnose faults, prevent abuse and protect MBReviews and its users.
The applicable legal basis is generally MBReviews’ legitimate interest in operating, securing and maintaining its services and, where relevant, providing functionality requested by the visitor.
4. Accounts and Authentication
If you create an MBReviews account, MBReviews may process information including:
- username;
- email address;
- account and profile information;
- authentication information;
- login and security information; and
- account activity necessary to operate the service.
Passwords are handled through WordPress authentication mechanisms and are not intended to be stored by MBReviews in plain text.
WordPress may use technically necessary cookies to authenticate logged-in users, maintain sessions and remember interface preferences.
Account information is retained while the account remains active and thereafter where reasonably required for security, legal obligations, dispute resolution or legitimate recordkeeping.
5. Comments and wpDiscuz
MBReviews uses wpDiscuz to provide commenting and community-related functionality.
When you comment, MBReviews may process:
- your display name;
- email address;
- website URL, if supplied;
- account/profile information if logged in;
- comment content;
- comment date and time;
- subscription, follow and activity preferences;
- moderation information; and
- technical information used for anti-abuse and security purposes.
Your comment and chosen display name may be publicly visible.
If you provide a website/profile URL, wpDiscuz may display a link to it alongside your comment.
wpDiscuz features available on MBReviews include comment activity, subscriptions, follows and user-content/settings controls.
For guest commenters, wpDiscuz may store the name, email address and website entered into the comment form in browser cookies so that these values can be pre-filled on a later visit.
MBReviews currently limits these guest-commenter convenience cookies to 30 days.
Additional technically necessary wpDiscuz or WordPress cookies may be used for security and form integrity.
Comments may remain published until removed by MBReviews, the commenter where functionality permits, or following a valid request, subject to legal and moderation requirements.
6. Contact Forms and Email
MBReviews uses Contact Form by BestWebSoft.
If you submit the contact form, MBReviews may receive:
- your name;
- email address;
- subject;
- message; and
- ordinary technical or anti-abuse information associated with the request.
MBReviews does not currently use the separate BestWebSoft Contact Form to DB add-on. Contact form messages are therefore not intentionally stored as a separate contact-form database by that plugin.
Messages are sent to the configured MBReviews email system and may remain in email storage, server logs or backups as reasonably necessary to respond to your request, maintain business records, resolve disputes or meet legal obligations.
7. Google Analytics 4
MBReviews uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand website usage and improve the site.
Depending on your consent choices, Google Analytics may process information concerning:
- pages and events;
- referral information;
- approximate geography;
- browser and device characteristics;
- session and engagement information; and
- other usage information configured within GA4.
MBReviews uses Google Consent Mode in conjunction with its consent system.
Where analytics consent is denied, analytics storage is denied and Google Analytics does not read or write first-party Analytics cookies such as
_ga
. Google may nevertheless receive limited cookieless consent-mode requests containing ordinary browser/network information for consent-aware measurement. Google documents this behaviour for
analytics_storage='denied'
.
Where analytics consent is granted, Google Analytics may set cookies including
_ga
and related identifiers and perform ordinary consented analytics processing.
You can change applicable consent choices through the privacy/consent controls provided on MBReviews.
Google processes information according to its own privacy and data-processing terms.
8. Advertising and Raptive
MBReviews displays advertising through Raptive.
The following statement is provided by Raptive for inclusion in publisher privacy policies:
Advertising.
CMI Marketing, Inc., d/b/a Raptive (“Raptive”) is a service provider of this Site for the purposes of placing advertising on the Site, and Raptive will collect and use certain data for advertising purposes. To learn more about Raptive’s data usage, click here: https://raptive.com/creator-advertising-privacy-statement
Raptive currently requires publishers to include this advertising notice and maintains the linked advertising privacy statement centrally.
Depending on your consent and privacy choices, Raptive and advertising partners may process identifiers and other information for purposes including:
- selecting and delivering advertising;
- measuring advertising performance;
- measuring content performance;
- understanding audiences;
- preventing fraud and abuse;
- developing and improving services; and
- where permitted by your choices, creating or using profiles for personalised advertising or content.
Declining personalised advertising does not necessarily mean that no advertising will be displayed. Limited, contextual or otherwise permitted advertising may still be shown.
MBReviews provides granular advertising/privacy choices through the applicable consent interface.
9. Cookies and Similar Technologies
MBReviews and its service providers may use cookies or similar technologies for different purposes.
Strictly necessary and functional technologies
These may include cookies required for:
- WordPress authentication;
- account sessions;
- site security;
- comment-form integrity;
- consent/preferences; and
- other functionality requested by the user.
These technologies may be used where they are necessary to provide the requested service.
wpDiscuz guest commenter cookies
wpDiscuz may remember a guest commenter’s name, email address and website for up to 30 days to make later commenting easier.
Analytics cookies
Google Analytics cookies such as
_ga
are used only in accordance with the configured consent state. When analytics storage is denied, MBReviews’ current configuration does not set these Analytics cookies.
Advertising technologies
Raptive and its advertising partners may use cookies and other identifiers according to your consent/privacy choices and the Raptive advertising privacy statement.
The Italian Data Protection Authority distinguishes technical storage from profiling and other tracking technologies and requires appropriate transparency and consent for tracking that is not technically necessary.
10. Affiliate Links
MBReviews participates in affiliate programs.
Some links to retailers or other commercial websites contain affiliate identifiers.
When you click an affiliate link:
- the destination merchant or affiliate network may receive the referring URL and affiliate identifier;
- ordinary network information such as your IP address and browser information is transmitted as part of the request; and
- MBReviews may later receive reporting concerning clicks, qualifying transactions and commissions.
MBReviews does not receive your payment-card details through a normal affiliate link.
The destination retailer and affiliate network process information according to their own privacy policies.
11. IndexNow and Search Engine Notification
MBReviews uses IndexNow to notify participating search engines when site URLs are added, updated or removed.
This process concerns URLs and website indexing information rather than being intended as visitor analytics.
MBReviews does not intentionally send visitor profiles or customer information through IndexNow.
12. MBReviews Test Lab on MBReviews.com
The MBReviews Test Lab allows visitors to explore and compare measurements from networking equipment tested by MBReviews.
Your interaction with the Lab may include selections such as:
- device;
- benchmark/test type;
- radio band;
- client adapter;
- channel width;
- upload/download direction;
- test distance; and
- comparison devices.
These selections primarily concern tested products and benchmark configurations, rather than information MBReviews asks you to provide about yourself.
Using the Lab nevertheless involves the ordinary server, security, analytics and consent-controlled processing described elsewhere in this Policy.
13. MBReviews Test Lab Embedded on Retailer Websites
An authorised retailer may place an MBReviews Test Lab module on its own product pages.
When an eligible retailer page is loaded, the visitor’s browser may contact MBReviews to determine whether the displayed product corresponds to a tested product in the MBReviews database.
For product matching and service delivery, MBReviews may receive:
- authorised retailer origin/domain;
- normalized product-page URL;
- product name;
- manufacturer/brand;
- model;
- retailer SKU;
- manufacturer part number (MPN);
- GTIN/EAN/UPC or similar product identifiers, where available;
- information indicating whether product identification is ambiguous;
- technical permission/test state associated with the integration; and
- ordinary browser/network information associated with the request, including IP address and user-agent information.
MBReviews uses this information to:
- identify the product conservatively;
- avoid showing benchmark results for an uncertain or incorrect product;
- verify retailer and product authorisation;
- deliver relevant Test Lab data; and
- secure and troubleshoot the integration.
If the product cannot be matched safely, the module is designed to show no benchmark rather than guess.
Information the embedded module is not designed to send to MBReviews
The Test Lab integration is not designed to send MBReviews:
- customer names;
- customer email addresses;
- retailer account credentials;
- shopping-cart contents;
- checkout information;
- delivery addresses;
- payment-card information;
- order records; or
- arbitrary retailer-page content unrelated to product identification.
14. Cookies and Storage Used by the Retail Test Lab
The MBReviews retail Test Lab module does not intentionally create its own persistent visitor cookie, localStorage identifier or cross-retailer tracking identifier for its optional interaction measurement.
The module nevertheless requires network requests to MBReviews, so MBReviews and its infrastructure necessarily process normal request information such as IP address, browser information and authorised retailer origin.
The module uses short-lived signed technical tokens to authorise frame, benchmark-data and optional measurement requests.
These tokens are intended for service security and request validation and are not designed as persistent advertising identifiers.
15. Optional Measurement of the Retail Test Lab
Participating retailers may optionally enable aggregate measurement designed to understand whether users see and interact with the MBReviews module and whether the integration operates correctly.
Where enabled and permitted by the applicable privacy configuration, MBReviews may record bounded events such as:
- eligible product resolution;
- unresolved product identification;
- frame start;
- successful widget rendering;
- qualifying widget visibility;
- first meaningful interaction;
- opening the comparison interface;
- selecting or removing an approved comparison product;
- changing test band/direction;
- selecting a test distance;
- clicking an alternative product at the retailer;
- clicking an MBReviews review;
- opening the full Test Lab;
- viewing the testing methodology;
- opening deeper multi-client, stability or MLO test data; and
- limited rendering or placement failure reasons.
These events are bounded and deduplicated within one embed attempt rather than being unrestricted click logs.
An embed attempt is not intended to represent a unique person, Shopify/WooCommerce customer, Google Analytics session or retailer account.
MBReviews does not use this system to:
- inspect checkout;
- record individual purchases;
- record individual order values;
- obtain customer identities;
- join Test Lab activity to identifiable orders;
- follow a person between retailers; or
- create an advertising profile.
Optional Test Lab measurement can operate separately from the ability to display the benchmark itself.
Where explicit consent is required by the deployment, measurement is designed to remain inactive until the appropriate consent signal is received.
The current module is also designed to suppress optional measurement when an explicit withdrawal, Global Privacy Control or browser Do Not Track signal is presented.
16. Retail Test Lab Measurement Retention
MBReviews stores retail interaction reporting primarily as aggregate daily records.
These may contain:
- UTC date;
- retailer partner identifier;
- source benchmark product;
- optional approved comparison target;
- event type;
- limited failure reason;
- Test/QA or Live mode;
- measurement-definition version; and
- aggregate count.
These aggregate Test Lab measurement records are currently retained for a rolling period of approximately 90 UTC days.
For deduplication and retry handling, MBReviews temporarily maintains a keyed technical hash associated with an embed attempt and a bounded list of already processed event keys.
This temporary state normally expires after approximately two hours.
These application-level retention periods do not necessarily determine the retention periods of Cloudflare, hosting, security logs or backups.
17. Retail Pilot Commercial Information
During a Test Lab retailer pilot, a participating retailer may separately provide MBReviews with aggregate commercial statistics to evaluate whether the integration is useful.
Examples may include aggregate:
- eligible control/treatment traffic;
- add-to-cart totals;
- order counts;
- category revenue;
- units sold;
- average selling price; and
- returns/cancellations.
MBReviews does not request that retailers provide customer names, customer email addresses, payment details, raw customer profiles or a mapping between an identifiable shopper and an MBReviews interaction.
The embedded Test Lab itself does not collect individual purchases or revenue.
18. Purposes and Legal Bases
Depending on the activity, MBReviews processes personal data for the following purposes and legal bases.
Providing requested services
Examples include:
- loading the site;
- authentication;
- accounts;
- comments;
- subscriptions/follows;
- contact requests; and
- delivering requested Test Lab results.
The legal basis may include performance of a requested service or steps requested by the user.
Security and operation
MBReviews has legitimate interests in:
- protecting the website;
- preventing fraud and abuse;
- maintaining availability;
- diagnosing technical problems;
- enforcing permissions; and
- protecting its services and users.
Analytics and optional measurement
Where consent is legally required, analytics and optional measurement are enabled in accordance with the applicable consent choice.
For a specific retailer integration, the appropriate legal basis and consent implementation should be determined before Live measurement is enabled.
Advertising
Advertising processing occurs according to the consent/privacy choices available through Raptive and the legal bases described in Raptive’s advertising privacy documentation.
Legal obligations
MBReviews may process or preserve information when required to comply with applicable tax, accounting, legal or regulatory obligations or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
19. Recipients and Service Providers
Depending on the service used, information may be processed by or disclosed to categories of recipients including:
- Cloudflare, for delivery, security and performance;
- Namecheap, for website hosting;
- email and communications providers used by MBReviews;
- Google, for consent-controlled Google Analytics;
- Raptive and its advertising partners, for advertising as described in the Raptive privacy statement;
- anti-spam, security or infrastructure providers;
- affiliate networks and retailers when you follow an affiliate link;
- participating retailers in relation to their own website operations; and
- professional or legal advisers where reasonably necessary.
MBReviews does not sell Test Lab customer/order data because the Test Lab is not designed to receive that information in the first place.
This statement does not override broader definitions of advertising-related “sale” or “sharing” that may exist under particular U.S. state laws; applicable advertising choices are handled through the relevant privacy controls.
20. International Transfers
Some providers used by MBReviews may process information outside Italy or outside the European Economic Area.
Where GDPR international-transfer requirements apply, MBReviews and/or the relevant service provider rely on an applicable transfer mechanism, which may include:
- an adequacy decision;
- Standard Contractual Clauses;
- another mechanism permitted under applicable data-protection law.
More detailed information about a particular provider’s transfer safeguards is available from that provider or on request where applicable.
21. Data Retention
MBReviews retains personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, subject to legal, security and operational obligations.
In particular:
- wpDiscuz guest-comment credential cookies: up to 30 days;
- retail Test Lab aggregate interaction metrics: approximately 90 UTC days;
- temporary retail Test Lab deduplication state: approximately 2 hours;
- comments: normally for as long as the comment remains published, subject to moderation and valid rights requests;
- accounts: while active and thereafter as necessary for security/legal purposes;
- contact/email correspondence: for as long as reasonably needed to respond, follow up and maintain necessary business/legal records;
- Google Analytics data: according to the retention configuration of MBReviews’ GA4 property and Google’s applicable processing rules;
- advertising data: according to Raptive’s and the applicable advertising partners’ privacy/retention policies;
- hosting/CDN/security logs and backups: according to the provider configuration and for as long as necessary for operational, security and backup purposes.
Where an exact fixed period is not specified, MBReviews uses the purpose, sensitivity, legal requirements and ongoing operational need as retention criteria.
22. Your GDPR Rights
If the GDPR applies to you, you may have rights including:
- the right to access personal data concerning you;
- the right to correct inaccurate data;
- the right to request deletion;
- the right to restrict processing;
- the right to object to certain processing;
- the right to data portability where applicable;
- the right to withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent; and
- the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
Withdrawal of consent does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal.
To make a privacy request, contact:
Because some MBReviews systems intentionally store only aggregate or privacy-minimised information, there may be circumstances in which MBReviews cannot identify which aggregate record relates to a particular individual without collecting additional identifying information.
Residents of Italy may lodge a complaint with the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
23. Advertising and Cookie Choices
You can use the privacy/consent controls available on MBReviews to manage applicable analytics and advertising choices.
Depending on your region, these controls may include:
- Reject All;
- granular advertising purposes;
- analytics consent;
- personalized advertising choices; and
- other legally required opt-outs.
Rejecting personalized advertising does not necessarily remove all advertisements. Contextual or otherwise permitted limited advertising may still be displayed.
You can also control or delete cookies through your browser settings, although deleting consent cookies may cause the website to ask for your preferences again.
24. United States State Privacy Rights
Residents of certain U.S. states may have additional rights under applicable state privacy laws.
Depending on the law and processing concerned, these may include rights to:
- access or know about personal information;
- correct information;
- request deletion;
- obtain a portable copy;
- opt out of certain targeted advertising;
- opt out of certain sale or sharing of personal information; and
- appeal certain privacy decisions.
Applicable advertising opt-out and privacy controls are provided through Raptive’s consent/privacy system.
You may also contact mark.b@mbreviews.com regarding rights that apply to MBReviews-controlled processing.
25. Automated Decision-Making and Profiling
MBReviews does not use Test Lab interaction measurements to make automated decisions about an individual that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
Advertising partners may perform profiling for personalized advertising only where permitted by applicable law and your privacy/consent choices, as described in Raptive’s advertising privacy statement.
26. Children’s Privacy
MBReviews is a general technology publication and is not directed toward children.
MBReviews does not knowingly seek personal data from children in circumstances where parental or other legally required authorization would be necessary.
If you believe a child has provided personal information to MBReviews unlawfully, contact mark.b@mbreviews.com so that the situation can be reviewed and appropriate action taken.
27. Security
MBReviews uses technical and organisational measures intended to protect information and restrict unauthorized access.
These include security and delivery infrastructure, access controls, short-lived tokens for the retailer Test Lab and measures intended to limit the information exposed by public interfaces.
No Internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.
28. Changes to this Privacy Policy
MBReviews may update this Privacy Policy when:
- the website changes;
- new services are introduced;
- service providers change;
- the Test Lab changes;
- retailer integrations change; or
- legal or regulatory requirements change.
The current revision date will be displayed at the top of the Policy.
Where a change materially affects processing that depends on consent, MBReviews will apply the consent requirements applicable to that changed processing rather than treating continued browsing alone as consent.
